SQL Server 2008 R2, the next version of Microsoft's database management
and business intelligence (BI) platform, will include master data
management technology, which helps synchronize widely used data such as
customer records across multiple databases, along with previously
announced improvements. The updated SQL Server roadmap will be of
particular interest to customers and partners using SQL Server for data
warehousing, analysis, and reporting, and those considering renewing
Software Assurance subscriptions for SQL Server, which provide upgrade
rights. However, a public preview of SQL Server 2008 R2 has not yet
appeared, and one feature will require Office and SharePoint upgrades.
