Office 2007 files can be smaller than their Office 2003 equivalents. Shown here are file sizes for two representative files, an Excel workbook and a PowerPoint presentation, in the Office 2003 and Office 2007 default formats. In general, text-heavy files such as Word and Excel documents will benefit most from the compression of the new Office 2007 formats.

Application Office 2003 (binary) Office 2007 (zipped XML) Size Reduction
Excel 3.5MB 1.7MB 51%
